Vasquez Climbing

Greivis Vasquez, 2006 PG, is continuing to climb in the recruit rankings and has already received offers from Maryland, NC State, Gonzaga and UNC. He began to garner interest when coaches came to see his teammate and 2005 recruit Uche Echefu, who eventually chose FSU over North Carolina and Maryland. Tall (6-5) and rangy, Vasquez can play any wing position. He has excellent ball handling skills and can score inside or outside. He recently played with Eric Hayes, 2006 commit to Maryland, for the Boo Williams AAU team and enjoyed the experience. He said in a recent Washington Post article that Maryland was "at the top of my list". The feeling I get is that if the staff really wants Vasquez, in spite of the history of Stu Vetter and Maryland, that he will be a Terp. They will have to decide on either Vasquez or Jerome Dyson for the SG position in 2006.

Football Notes

Jeremy Ricker, a quarterback out of Bishop McDevitt HS in Harrisburg PA, has seemed to narrow his choices to Oregon or Maryland. Ricker is a top 100 player and ranks 3rd among dual threat QBs according to Scout.com. Ricker will likely commit within the next month. If Friedgen can land him it will be a major coup for the staff to entice the first elite quarterback prospect of the Friedgen era to College Park. There are only a limited number of scholarships the staff will be able to offer and getting two top 100 players early in the recruiting season will provide a great deal of momentum.
