Surprise Recruit for Fall

Gary Williams pulled the rug out from under the recruiting "gurus" by signing another player for the 2005 season. Junior college point guard Parrish Brown from Chicago area Kennedy King CC signed to play for the Terrapins. The 6-1 "combo" guard averaged 21 points, 5 assists and 6 rebounds as a sophomore this past season. His coach described him this way:
"Parrish is a gym rat, and I think he will have a tremendous career at the University of Maryland," said Dildy. "He is a humble young man, and he is very coachable. Parrish plays every game - every possession - with his heart and soul, and he is willing to lay it on the line, night-in and night-out, to earn victories."
This means that Maryland now has 2 open scholarships for the class of 2006. Eric Hayes and Landon Milbourne have already given commitments. It will probably come down to SGs Jerome Dyson or Geivis Vasquez and a big man like Duke Crews, DeJuan Summers or Shamari Spears. Now that Dyson is back from a semester in Spain look for the staff to go head-to-head with UConn for his services, though there are rumors that Vasquez has become a favorite of Williams.
