Bubble Carnage

Maryland didn't even play last night but may have gotten more help getting to the NCAA Tournament than they could have hoped for with other bubble squads dropping games left and right last night.

Consider the teams that lost:
  • Florida drops a killer to Mississippi State
  • Kentucky lost Georgia at home
  • Georgia Tech downed Miami to all but eliminate the Hurricanes
  • Virginia Tech failed to upset UNC
  • N.C. State kept BC from solidifying their resume
All in all it was about as good a night for Maryland's post season hopes as you could expect short of them winning. Things are looking much better for the Terps getting in with an 8-8 record.

We can only hope. I can't believe that with everything they had on the line, Miami just up and chokes like that. I guess teams get their resolve and will from their coaches. Thankfully Gary is never in short supply of that. I still think that we need to beat UVA and win one in the tourney. Or two for good measure. Or duplicate what we did in 2004 just because it would make me feel better.

Of course we still need to do the heavy lifting ourselves. We need to beat UVA and then (likely) the loser of the Miami/NC State in the first round of the ACC tournament.

Indeed they need to win @ Virginia to get to 8-8 but I'm starting to think that even if they drop the first game of the ACC Tournament that they still have an outside shot of earning a bid due to the weak bubble. That depends on many games left to be played but as of now things are setting up well for Maryland.

Yes our Terps got a nice gift. Every single other bubble team besides Providence and OK State seem to lose every night.

Greenberg looked like he was going to die on the sidelines during that timeout last night.
